Challenge:
Patrick Terminals required nine specialised access platforms to safely access refrigerated (reefer) shipping containers stacked up to three units high, spanning nine containers in width, with access required from both sides. The structures needed extreme corrosion resistance suited for harsh coastal conditions. Standard wind bracing would normally sit on the external sides of the structure, but this would obstruct access along the sides and restrict operational functionality.
Solution:
OEM Group® delivered a fully engineered solution designed and fabricated in-house. Using custom-milled aluminium supplied by Capral, we produced a corrosion-resistant structure that reduces material waste, making aluminium cost-competitive when compared with standard galvanised steel while improving durability. Our engineering team integrated wind bracing into the stairways to manage wind loads without blocking access, providing full functionality and safety.
Outcome:
The platforms now provide safe, stable access to reefer containers, improving workflow and operational efficiency at the terminal.
